Chiang Kai-shek’s Former Residence

On December 1, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling got married. Finally,Song Ziwen bought a large enough western-style garden house as a wedding gift for Song Meiling which stood on what is today’s 9 Dongping Road.

The residence is a French-style building. It is composed of one main building and two auxiliary buildings. In front of the residence there is a rockery carved with Chiang Kaishek’s inscription “Love House”. Today, the residence is used as the office building for Shanghai Beijing Opera Troupe.

Around this villa there were many properties that belonged to the Songs, the Kongs’ etc. Now these villas have been turned into restaurantsor bars where a lot of Shanghainese spend their leisure time.

蒋宋住宅区

衡山路一带星罗密布着一群花园洋房，这里曾是蒋介石及其军官下属的住宅区。蒋介石与宋美龄结婚前,在上海的住所大多是临时的,到了1927年蒋介石与宋美龄结婚,才在上海真正安置了一个家。不过这所住宅也不是蒋介石掏钱买的,而是他大舅子——宋美龄的哥哥宋子文买来作为宋美龄的陪嫁。这幢法式花园洋房位于法租界贾尔业爱路9号(现东平路)。

这是一组法国式的花园别墅，由一幢主楼与两幢副楼组成。别墅正前方是一片占地近千平方米的草坪，草坪之南有一汪池水，两座假山，那座大假山上刻有蒋介石亲笔题写的“爱庐”二字。“爱庐”现为上海京剧院。

“爱庐”周围,衡山路东平路口10多栋花园别墅,都是宋家、孔家和陈立夫、陈果夫留下,角上有一栋,如今开了间“Sasha酒吧”,还有些附属建筑开了店。这一栋栋的别墅中曾经住着决定一整个国家命运的人物，如今掩映在一派灯红酒绿之中。不知身在其中的人们在品味口中的饕餮之时有否些许感受历史的沉重。
